What is Stories for Games?
StoriesForGames is a deck of cards for brainstorming new game stories. If you ever wanted to develop a story for a game, here is your chance!
A good sense of the story is a great help in developing the gameplay and a well working game. Story and gameplay need to progress hand in hand, not separately as frequently seen in games.
Our deck of cards gets you on track for brainstorming story ideas and expanding them into poignant and useful stories for games. It provides you with characters, keywords and themes that spark your thinking process and own ideas. If you keep in mind that story and gameplay need to progress hand in hand, you will be successful. The deck may be used together with our gameplay set of cards IdeasForGames.
Stories for Games was developed by GameLab ZHdK as a tool for indie game developers.
How to play
Playing StoriesForGames to create your own game story is easy! All you need is a deck of our cards and you can start. In this deck there are 126 cards in 6 categories. It is accompanied by a printed booklet with instructions. Additionally, you can find a PDF with further information and tips on this website. There are many ways to use the card categories, depending on what kind of story you want to create.
